Tim Curry Dies at 80 in Los Angeles Home

British actor Tim Curry, widely celebrated for his iconic performance as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," died late Tuesday night at his home in Los Angeles. He was 80 years old.

His longtime agent and manager, Marcia Hurwitz, confirmed his passing to media outlets. Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to a home on the 10500 block of La Maida Street in North Hollywood around 11 p.m. Tuesday for a death investigation involving a male in his 80s, according to local law enforcement. Police stated that no foul play is suspected in the case.

Curry's career spanned more than five decades across film, television, and theater. After starting his professional acting journey in the late 1960s, he gained international prominence in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," which evolved from a critical afterthought into a legendary midnight movie phenomenon.

Throughout his career, Curry built a reputation for portraying distinct villains and eccentric characters. He played Pennywise the Clown in the 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King's "It," Rooster Hannigan in the 1982 film version of "Annie," and the fast-talking butler Wadsworth in the 1985 comedy mystery "Clue." His extensive filmography also includes roles in "The Hunt for Red October," "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York," "Muppet Treasure Island," and "Charlie's Angels."

An accomplished stage actor, Curry earned three Tony Award nominations and an Emmy nomination during his career. In addition to live-action performances, he worked extensively as a voice actor across animated films and television series.

In 2012, Curry suffered a severe stroke that required brain surgery and left him using a wheelchair. He spoke publicly about his ongoing health recovery during the release of his memoir, "Vagabond."

"I've been recovering for quite a long time," said Curry in a statement made last year regarding his health following the 2012 stroke.
