Spain Considers Carlos Espi and Gonzalo Garcia for Striker Position

Spain national team manager Luis de la Fuente is weighing adjustments to his squad ahead of upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against England and Croatia, targeting young Real Madrid forward Carlos Espi and Fulham striker Gonzalo Garcia as potential options for the central attack.

Following Spain's World Cup victory in the United States, the coaching staff is evaluating future options for the central striker role. While Mikel Oyarzabal remains a core figure, 33-year-old Borja Iglesias may see diminished involvement, creating opportunities for fresh prospects.

Real Madrid recently acquired the 21-year-old Espi from Levante for 25 million euros after he scored 13 goals last season, including 11 goals in 25 league appearances to help Levante avoid relegation. The 1.94-meter striker quickly made an impact by scoring the decisive goal against Espanyol in his official debut for Real Madrid.

Espi previously featured on De la Fuente's 50-player preliminary roster prior to the World Cup and earned playing time with Spain's Under-20 side. De la Fuente monitored his development during his stint at Levante and has taken note of his integration under Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.

Garcia, who transferred to Fulham after scoring eight goals and providing three assists for Real Madrid last season, represents the other primary option. The former Under-21 team leader recorded six goals in seven matches for La Rojita and made his senior international debut in a pre-World Cup friendly against Iraq.

"Next squad list? I have no commitment to anyone. We are not going to die of commitment," said Luis de la Fuente, Manager of the Spain National Football Team.

The upcoming national team squad announcement will precede the roster selection for the Under-21 side, which faces upcoming qualifications for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
