S&P 500 corporate earnings extended their growth momentum through August 21, 2026, driven by broad-based sector gains and strong technology results as Wall Street prepares for crucial third-quarter projections and major financial reporting.

Data shows 468 S&P 500 companies—representing 93.6% of total index membership—reported second-quarter earnings gains of 40.6% on 14.1% revenue growth, with 84% surpassing profit estimates and 76.9% beating revenue forecasts.

Growth was heavily bolstered by stellar individual quarterly earnings from Alphabet and Micron, while total technology sector profits jumped 50.6% on 27.5% higher revenues compared to the prior year period.

Excluding technology's outsized impact, broader S&P 500 annual earnings growth stands at 14.9%, highlighting expanding momentum across eight distinct Zacks sectors including Finance, Industrials, Utilities, Transportation, and Construction.

Retail performance also showed resilience, as 24 reported S&P 500 retailers posted an 11.9% profit increase on 10.8% higher revenues, with Amazon generating a 12.6% earnings boost on a 19.6% revenue jump.

Attention now pivots to third-quarter forecasts, where S&P 500 profits are projected to climb 22.3% on 10.8% revenue gains, alongside upcoming quarterly reports from key companies like Nvidia, Salesforce, Best Buy, and Ulta Beauty.
