Cam Skattebo Sparks Giants Practice Altercation With Aggressive Play
New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo ignited an intra-squad scuffle during practice on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, after making contact with defensive backs during a drill where hitting was prohibited.
The physical second-year player slid late after completing a reception, coming close to the legs of safety Jevon Holland and cornerback Greg Newsome II. Newsome confronted Skattebo immediately following the play, escalating the situation before the confrontation cooled down without punches thrown.
Head coach John Harbaugh addressed the running back's intense playing style following the session, expressing concerns over the disruptive nature of the incident during team drills.
"Yeah it’s infectious. It can be infectious the other way, an infectious disease type of thing. We want it to be in a positive way," said John Harbaugh, Head Coach of the New York Giants.
Harbaugh also noted that the running back received a 15-yard penalty at the end of practice due to the sequence.
"Did you see that? Yeah it's infectious. It can be infectious the other way, an infectious disease type of thing. We want it to be in a positive way," said John Harbaugh, Head Coach of the New York Giants.
Defensive teammates took exception to the physical play, which followed a previous practice incident where Skattebo ran over linebacker Zaire Barnes during a non-contact period. Later in the practice session, Skattebo approached the defensive sideline to make amends with his teammates.
Addressing reports characterizing the incident as a broader locker room issue, offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor disputed the claims on social media.
"Stop trying to create a BS narrative," wrote Jermaine Eluemunor, Offensive Tackle for the New York Giants.
Skattebo is currently competing for the starting role in a crowded backfield that includes Devin Singletary and newcomer Najee Harris. During his 2025 rookie campaign, the fourth-round selection rushed for 410 yards and five touchdowns while adding 207 receiving yards and two scores across eight games before suffering a season-ending ankle injury.
The Giants wrap up their preseason against the New York Jets on Friday, Aug. 28, before opening the regular season against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.
