Seattle Mariners Defeat Philadelphia Phillies Behind Cal Raleigh Homers

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh tied a franchise record with home runs in four consecutive at-bats to lead Seattle to a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night, Aug. 25, 2026, at T-Mobile Park.

Raleigh opened the scoring in the second inning against Philadelphia starter Aaron Nola with a 362-foot home run to right field, marking his 18th home run of the season. The solo shot followed his three-homer performance in Monday's 9-2 victory over Philadelphia, matching Mike Cameron's 2002 franchise mark of consecutive at-bats with a home run.

Raleigh became the first Mariners player to hit four home runs across two consecutive games since Kenji Johjima accomplished the feat in June 2006. His historic stretch included two home runs off righty Zack Wheeler and one off reliever Chase Shugart in Monday's game, pushing his August OPS to .797.

In Monday's opener, the Mariners built an early lead after Logan Gilbert allowed one run in the top of the first. Randy Arozarena walked, Dominic Canzone singled, and Julio Rodríguez hit a three-run home run off Wheeler. Raleigh later extended the lead with a home run on a high fastball.

"I mean, I'd like to say no, but I don't know," Raleigh said when asked if he would have missed that pitch earlier in the season. "I know when I wasn't getting that pitch in the middle up a little, I was just missing it. Even though I was seeing it well, I wasn't taking advantage of it. And today I was able to take advantage of it, so I feel good."

Seattle sustained its offensive pressure throughout Monday's contest, drawing five walks against Wheeler through four innings before securing the 9-2 victory.

During Tuesday's matchup, starting pitcher George Kirby earned the win for Seattle after surrendering one run on four hits while striking out nine over 7 2/3 innings. Kirby escaped a second-inning bases-loaded jam that yielded Philadelphia's lone run on a Justin Crawford RBI single.

Nola took the loss for Philadelphia after permitting two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts in six innings. Seattle broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning on Josh Naylor's RBI single, followed by a two-out, two-run single from Canzone off reliever Brooks Raley.

Jose Ferrer recorded the final out of the eighth inning, and Andrés Muñoz pitched a scoreless ninth to claim his 24th save in 32 opportunities. Elsewhere in the league, Los Angeles Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow was scheduled to return from a back injury against Atlanta, while Kevin Gausman threw seven shutout innings in a 7-0 victory for the Chicago Cubs over Arizona.

The Mariners and Phillies complete their three-game series on Wednesday afternoon, featuring a pitching matchup between Philadelphia left-hander Jesús Luzardo and Seattle right-hander Bryan Woo.
