Melania Trump Hosts White House Event Ahead of DC IndyCar Grand Prix

Standing before a backdrop of American flags, Trump was joined by an IndyCar displayed in the Rose Garden to highlight both the upcoming race and her program supporting youth exiting foster care.

The event highlighted a joint $2 million contribution from Fox Corporation and IndyCar to fund scholarships at Indiana University and Purdue University, expanding the initiative's network to 26 higher education institutions nationwide.

IndyCar drivers Scott Dixon, Alexander Rossi, Graham Rahal, and Scott McLaughlin attended the gathering alongside IndyCar President Doug Boles, who noted that cars would reach speeds exceeding 180 mph along the National Mall circuit.

"The greatest investment America can make is not in technology, infrastructure or capital markets. It's our children," said Melania Trump, First Lady of the United States.

The first lady also noted that a scholarship recipient had earned a doctoral degree earlier in the spring.

Days later, the inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix took place on Sunday, August 23, 2026, marking the first time IndyCar vehicles competed on a street circuit passing the U.S. Capitol and the Washington Monument to celebrate America's 250th anniversary.

President Donald Trump and Melania Trump attended the race accompanied by family members, Cabinet secretaries, and White House aides, including executive assistant Natalie Harp, who sat several rows behind the couple.
