Kansas City Chiefs Running Back Kenneth Walker Misses Practice With Foot Injury

Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker missed Tuesday practice on Aug. 25, 2026, due to a foot injury, adding to a growing list of sidelined players ahead of the regular-season opener against the Denver Broncos. Walker was held out of the session as a precautionary measure, though he appeared on the field without a helmet to catch passes with an assistant coach during warmups. The team has not yet disclosed the full severity of the issue.

The offseason free-agent acquisition signed a three-year contract with Kansas City in March to help bolster the rushing attack. Offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy addressed the team's ongoing focus on offensive cohesion despite the recent injury setbacks.

"I think when you have a great run game, it opens up things down the field because it tends to have people play closer to the line of scrimmage," said Eric Bieniemy, Chiefs offensive coordinator. "The thing that we need to make sure that we’re focused on is making sure that we can all get on the same page and continue to build everything as we want to with the right people, but also making sure that we’re getting the guys in the right positions to execute and get the things done that we want done."

Walker joined Kansas City following four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, where he compiled 1,027 rushing yards and five touchdowns during the 2025 regular season before earning Super Bowl LX MVP honors. He logged two carries for four yards in Kansas City's recent 16-15 preseason loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Alongside Walker, eight other Kansas City players did not participate in Tuesday's practice session.

Safety Chamarri Conner, defensive end Ashton Gillotte, safety Alohi Gilman, offensive lineman C.J. Hanson, wide receiver Jimmy Holiday, quarterback Chris Oladokun, left tackle Josh Simmons, and defensive end Tyreke Smith were all sidelined with various ailments.

Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list, while linebacker Jack Cochrane participated in limited warmup drills. Head coach Andy Reid is scheduled to address the media Wednesday regarding player availability for Friday's preseason finale against Seattle.
