India Strengthens Hold on Second Test Against Sri Lanka in Colombo

India consolidated their dominance in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, declaring their first innings at 503 for nine. Sri Lanka finished Day 3 at 265 for eight, still trailing by 238 runs and facing the prospect of a follow-on.

Sri Lanka's batsman Sonal Dinusha remained unbeaten on 85, maintaining his strong form after scoring 100 and 84 in the first Test in Galle. Lahiru Kumara also remained not out on eight when rain halted play early.

India's bowlers Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar each took three wickets, applying constant pressure on the Sri Lankan batting lineup. Krishna finished Day 3 with figures of 3-47, while Suthar claimed 3-83.

Pasindu Sooriyabandara, who scored 80 runs, led Sri Lanka's resistance after the team resumed at a precarious 8 for 2. He added 87 runs in partnership with Kamindu Mendis, who contributed 32 before being dismissed by Krishna.

"He looked much more comfortable in the second Test," said sources about Sooriyabandara, who had struggled in the first Test after coming in as a concussion substitute.

Sooriyabandara's innings included nine boundaries, helping to stabilize Sri Lanka's innings before his dismissal just before lunch.

Niroshan Dickwella was dismissed without scoring by India's Mohammed Siraj, leaving Sri Lanka at 173 for seven. Keshara Nuwantha scored 18 but was caught after a 57-run partnership with Dinusha.

"Dinusha continues to frustrate the Indian bowlers with his fluent innings," reported observers, noting his six boundaries and two sixes off 137 balls.

India currently lead the two-match series 1-0, having won the first Test in Galle by 165 runs. With only two wickets remaining and Sri Lanka still 39 runs short of avoiding the follow-on, India remain firmly in control of the match at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground.
