Fromm Family Foods Recalls Canned Dog Food Over Metal Risks

Wisconsin-based pet food company Fromm Family Foods issued a voluntary recall for more than 5,800 cases of two varieties of canned wet dog food distributed across North America due to potential metal contamination, according to an Aug. 21 recall notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The affected inventory includes over 3,800 cases of Fromm Turkey Pâté Wet Dog Food and 1,900 cases of Fromm Diner Classics Milo's Meatloaf Pâté Wet Dog Food, as reported by USA TODAY. Both products were packaged in 12.2 oz and 12.5 oz cans respectively, featuring best-by dates of 3/20/29 and lot code EP2A3306 551006 or EP2A3306 551029.

Regulatory officials noted that the recalled items pose potential health risks to dogs if consumed. Distribution extended to independent pet retail stores and online platforms throughout the United States and Canada, including physical retail outlets across Michigan such as Pet Supplies Plus, Premier Pet Supply, and Family Farm & Home.

Consumers holding the impacted lot codes are advised to immediately cease feeding the product to their pets and return the unused cans to the original place of purchase for a full refund. Pet owners whose dogs exhibit unusual health symptoms after consuming the food are instructed to contact a veterinarian immediately.
