Donald Trump Buys SpaceX Shares After Historic IPO in June 2026
President Donald Trump purchased between $15,001 and $50,000 worth of SpaceX shares on June 23, shortly after the company completed the largest IPO in U.S. history on June 12, according to a financial disclosure made public on August 22.
The shares were trading in the mid-$150 range on the purchase date, down from highs above $200, and closed at the IPO price of $135 on the following Monday, potentially putting Trump’s investment at a loss, as reported by Reuters and other sources.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said the president’s stock portfolio is managed by third-party financial institutions that replicate recognized indexes such as the Schwab 1000.
"Neither President Trump nor any member of his family has the ability to manage, influence, or provide recommendations on how the portfolio is invested or when investments are bought or sold," said Ingle.
The purchase highlights a financial link between Trump and SpaceX, a company that heavily relies on federal contracts and regulatory approvals. SpaceX has benefited from the Trump administration’s deregulatory stance and has been awarded increasing government contracts, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis.
On August 21, President Trump instructed his administration to facilitate a significant increase in commercial space launches, a sector where SpaceX is a dominant player, potentially impacting the company's future prospects.
Kelly Loeffler, head of the U.S. Small Business Administration and a member of Trump’s cabinet, also made substantial investments related to Elon Musk’s companies. She initially invested in Musk’s artificial intelligence and social media firm xAI, which later merged with SpaceX.
After her nomination to lead the Small Business Administration, Loeffler made another investment in the merged entity. Analysts estimate her initial investment could have been valued between $7 million and $2.6 billion on the IPO day, with her later investment worth between $2.2 million and $25.4 million, according to PitchBook analyst Franco Grandi.
