Dan J Sullivan Advances in Alaska Senate General Election

Retired teacher Dan J. Sullivan will advance to the general election ballot in Alaska's U.S. Senate race alongside incumbent Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan and Democratic challenger Mary Peltola following the state's all-party primary projection by NBC News on August 26, 2026.

The general election in November will feature ranked-choice voting to determine the winner of the highly competitive seat. Initial primary results showed Peltola leading with 48 percent of the vote, while incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan held 43 percent and Dan J. Sullivan garnered 2.4 percent.

Former Anchorage Mayor Dan A. Sullivan recently endorsed the incumbent Republican senator in an effort to clear voter confusion caused by the identical names on the ballot.

"As the OG Dan Sullivan, I urge Alaskans to vote for Sen. Dan S. Sullivan.

He’s been great for Alaska," wrote Dan A. Sullivan.

Republicans have alleged that the retired teacher entered the race to confuse voters and dilute support for the incumbent senator. State and federal law enforcement authorities in Alaska are currently investigating whether the candidacy involves a conspiracy to mislead the electorate, with a federal grand jury issuing subpoenas to individuals connected to the Dan J. Sullivan campaign.

The candidate denied allegations of scheme or political coordination with opponent campaigns, stating that he registered as a Republican after his former party, the Alaska Independence Party, ceased operations. The Alaska Supreme Court previously overturned a decision by the state Division of Elections to disqualify Dan J. Sullivan, allowing him to remain on the election ballot.
