Cincinnati Reds Rallies in Ninth Inning to Defeat San Francisco Giants

A seven-run rally in the ninth inning propelled the Cincinnati Reds to a 10-9 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park on Wednesday, avoiding a series sweep.

Trailing by six runs entering the final frame, the Reds mounted a dramatic comeback that culminated in their first victory of this nature since 1958. Eugenio Suarez keyed the surge with a grand slam that cut the deficit to one run with no outs in the inning.

Subsequent offensive contributions from Dane Myers, Matt McLain, and Tyler Stephenson allowed Cincinnati to take the lead. Reds closer Emilio Pagan pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to record his 17th save of the season.

Prior to the late rally, the Reds struggled early as starting pitcher Nick Lodolo allowed four earned runs, five strikeouts, and two walks over four innings on 95 pitches. Manager Terry Francona removed Lodolo in the fifth inning following a home run by Rafael Devers that made the score 4-2.

Offensively, Hector Rodriguez provided early energy after being moved to the leadoff spot, launching his second and third home runs since being recalled from the minor leagues.

The victory improves Cincinnati's record to 63-71 on the season as the team prepares for an upcoming road series against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field following an off day on Thursday.
