Chris Kuper Elevates Philadelphia Eagles Offensive Line Depth in Preseason

Philadelphia Eagles offensive line coach Chris Kuper has guided the team's backup linemen to stellar performances through the first two games of the 2026 NFL preseason as reported on August 23, 2026. The reserve group has allowed just one sack across two exhibition contests. Kuper joined Philadelphia during the 2026 offseason under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion following a four-year stint with the Minnesota Vikings.

His arrival followed the departure of longtime Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, creating high expectations for Kuper in replacing the respected veteran coach. The offensive line depth showed initial success during Philadelphia's 24-7 preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Backup linemen Jake Majors, Micah Morris, Willie Lampkin, Markel Bell, and Drew Kendall combined for 68 pass-protection snaps without giving up a sack, quarterback hit, or hurry.

Over 139 total pass-protection snaps across two preseason games, the five backup linemen have surrendered only one sack and one quarterback hurry, both charged to Morris. In a exhibition matchup against the New England Patriots, the unit assisted the rushing attack in accumulating 90 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries.

Individual reserve linemen have capitalized on early playing time. Majors has gained reps as a hybrid interior lineman at center and guard, while rookie tackle Bell is viewed as a long-term prospect behind veteran Lane Johnson. Morris offers flexible depth at both guard spots following last year's injury concerns for starter Landon Dickerson.

Minnesota opted not to retain Kuper after four seasons before Philadelphia added him to its coaching staff. The Vikings subsequently hired Keith Carter to direct their offensive line room ahead of the 2026 campaign.
