Asian stock markets recorded losses on Monday, August 24, as concerns surrounding high artificial intelligence infrastructure expenditures pressured equity valuations ahead of Nvidia's earnings release and the Federal Reserve's annual meeting.

Regional equity benchmarks posted widespread drops during early trading, according to market data reported by Bloomberg and CNBC TV18. MSCI's Asia Pacific Index fell as much as 1%, driven by sharp declines in major technology listings, while South Korea's Kospi dropped 1.66%. Japan's Nikkei 225 declined 0.49%, whereas US futures recovered early losses to trade slightly positive, with Nasdaq 100 contracts rising 0.1%.

Individual corporate actions accelerated selling pressure across key technology sectors. Samsung Electronics Co. slid 8.7% in Seoul following investor dissatisfaction with its 110 trillion won shareholder return plan, while Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. tumbled 9.6% in Hong Kong after launching an 80 billion Hong Kong dollar share sale to fund its global artificial intelligence initiatives.

Rising hardware costs further compounded market anxieties regarding corporate technology budgets. Nvidia may increase prices on next-generation system shipments early next year, according to a report by Bloomberg, heightening broader concerns over sustained corporate spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Energy markets and geopolitical factors added additional pressure to investor sentiment. Brent crude dropped 1% to $93.45 a barrel and West Texas Intermediate fell 1.1% to $86.13, even as crude remains up over 50% this year amid ongoing supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
